Five years ago, my big family and I, spent our holiday by travelling around the Jawa Island. It was all planned four months before our departure date. Our plan is to travel by car. My two uncles and my father will take turn driving the car.
We depart from Palembang, at about 04.00 o’clock in the morning to our first stop, Lampung, and then we have to cross the sea by ferry at the Bakauheni port to Jakarta. Travelling by ferry but sitting in the car was a new experience for me. The ferry was a very crowded boat, it doesn’t only carry passengers but it also carries vehicles and trucks loaded with goods that will be delivered around Indonesia. It was lucky, that the weather was good so the ferry ride wasn’t a very rough one.
It was 10am when we reach Jakarta, from Jakarta we start our day having breakfast at a small restaurant. Then we continue moving towards east to Java Island. Our main stop is the Jepara Province. This province produces the best woodcraft furniture and they also have the best workmanship in Indonesia. Everyone can’t wait to reach there as soon as possible.
I can’t remember how long it took to travel from Jakarta to Jepara, during the journey, everyone in the car chatted, share their thoughts, made jokes, time seemed passed so fast that we didn’t realize we already reach the Jepara’s border. Luckily, before our trip my father contacted his friend, a local which will bring us around the province. Although I don’t really like the food there, but the local carpenter really produce very fine wood furniture. It was really an eye-opening experience for me.
It was really regret for not staying at that place long enough, but I also can’t wait to move on and travel around the Java Island. We continue travel around the island for 1 week and start our journey back to Palembang with double the baggage full of gifts and souvenirs.
